Family First Mediation and Dispute Resolution is a boutique mediation practice offering Family Law Mediation, Child Consultation and Parenting Coordination. Each process is streamlined, tailored to your needs and a cost-effective alternative to legal proceedings. We provide parties with a safe, structured and supportive environment to discuss, explore and resolve disputes following separation including parenting arrangements, financial settlements and child support disputes.
Being a small mediation practice, parties will work closely with the Principal Mediator who will walk each party through the process with care and empathy providing resources and referrals to help clients manage this difficult transition.
Our role is to help facilitate difficult conversations and to provide separated couples with a space to make decisions about what is best for them and their children moving forward after separation.
Our Principal Mediator has specialist training to provide Child Consultation meetings for parents engaged in child centred mediation and is also a trained Parenting Coordinator offering an additional layer of support for high conflict parents with Court Orders or Agreements.
In 2023, Family First Mediation and Dispute Resolution acquired Western Sydney's leading mediation practice, The Mediation Centre, expanding its reach to support families.
Tara is the founder and Principal Mediator at Family First Mediation and Dispute Resolution. Tara holds a Bachelor of Social Science majoring in Behavioural Studies, is an Accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, Nationally Accredited Mediator, Child Consultant and Parenting Coordinator who works with separated families in dispute resolution processes in both the community sector and in private practice.
Prior to becoming a mediator Tara worked as a Judge's Associate in the Federal Circuit Court of Australia hearing family law matters for over 10 years. Having seen first-hand the devastating effects that legal proceedings have on families including the financial turmoil from meeting ongoing and increasing legal fees, the emotional upheaval and distress caused by the lengthy Court process and the ongoing requirement to adhere to Court orders she decided to dedicate her knowledge, skills and time to helping families reach a resolution without the need for court determination.
Tara is passionate about helping families remain future focused and helping them improve their communication. Tara believes that empowering others to resolve their disputes is fundamental in achieving peace after separation and ensures that children are not exposed to the detriments of ongoing conflict, enabling them to focus on being children, and parents being positive role models and co-parents.
Tara also provides mediation for Legal Aid New South Wales' Early Intervention Unit and Court Ordered Mediation Program. In 2023, Tara successfully acquired The Mediation Centre, a leading mediation provider to families in Greater Western Sydney.
